AFMC Selected to Run Health Insurance Hotline

LITTLE ROCK, AR (October 11, 2016) – Arkansas Health Insurance Marketplace (AHIM) selected Arkansas Foundation for Medical Care (AFMC) to design, implement and operate the call center for the State-Based Exchange on the Federal Platform (SBE-FP) known as the Individual Marketplace. The toll-free number will be used by consumers seeking healthcare coverage or consumers with questions about coverage. The vendor was chosen through an RFP process.


The call center will be operational on Tuesday, November 1. The hours of operation will be Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. AFMC agents will transfer calls to the appropriate entities – the Arkansas Department of Human Services, the Arkansas Small Business Health Options Program Exchange, the Federally Exchange, a certified health insurance agent or broker, insurance navigators and assistors, or directly to the insurance carriers.


“AHIM is proud to be partnering with an Arkansas-based organization with a proven track record in handling similar projects for the Department of Human Services and the Arkansas Insurance Department,” said Cheryl Smith Garner, AHIM Executive Director. “The call center will be a key benefit to My Arkansas Insurance consumers and potential consumers in making sure that critical insurance information is provided in a timely manner.”


The bid for AHIM’s call center was 40% under the proposed budget and will result in a one-year contract.
